I Gotta Catch Up...

Eight years (since I 'hung up my spurs' ) is a long time away from the business world. First, the terminology: Who had ever heard of 'Onboarding', and what is Zoom? Sales Funnels and Digitization? Disruption or Unpack? And there's much more.

Wasn't Amazon a bookseller? And what's this? ...wave your Cell Phone around to pay for things? The descriptors: "pain points" (customer challenges), Headwinds and Tailwinds (threats/opportunities), or 'first-mover advantage' (new market entry strategy). Really? Let's not leave out the acronym salad, like OKR (Objectives and Key Results), ML (Machine Learning) and AI (Artificial Intelligence), CX (Customer Experience) or UX (User Experience). Dare I go on?

Now, there's Web3, described by Avast as the third generation of the World Wide Web. Web2 is the current version. Who knew?

I have a lot to catch up on. But how much of it is new or just the latest version that preceded it? Yes, new toys, bells and whistles, whether Internet-driven or a digital product, App-supported or social media engaged, all have contributed to this almost unrecognizable environment.

But let's take another look. Has anything remained the same? Is business still business? Is defining a market still a need? Do we no longer face the challenges of bringing a product or service to market? Are all the design-engineering steps to developing manufacturing systems no longer valid? Is it a 'first-mover' advantage, or simply the age-old principle that the 'first to market' with a product or service will be favoured? ...Although not necessarily true, when entry numbers two, three or five bring forth a 'new and improved' interpretation... but who's judging?

Now that I have decided to re-enter the fray, I look to see what has remained steadfast and what has not. But I can use some help. Therefore, if you like where I'm headed, see the opportunity, and think you can assist me in navigating this new world... please don't be shy!

Later!
