Here’s a story from many, many years ago... that someone shared, years ago!
It was the morning of the Big Day, her daughter's Wedding. After first tending to her daughter, this Mother of the Bride was laying out her own outfit. Suddenly she realized she had totally forgotten to order her matching hat.
Out the door she flew, getting to her favourite Milliner's establishment just as he was about to go for lunch. She pleaded her case, letting him know the urgency.
Sympathizing, he reopened the door, and made her comfortable in the Client's chair; all the while, she explained how she needed this hat to match her new blue dress and that she only had an hour before she had to be at the Church.
‘Okay’, give me a moment’, he said, popping through the beaded curtain into the back room. A few minutes later he emerged with several ribbons and a feather, in his hands. Soon, however, he had fashioned a delightful fascinator headpiece.
He swivelled her chair around so she could see herself and asked, ‘What do you think?’ ‘Ah’, she said, ‘It's beautiful... I love it!’ ‘How much!’, she asked.
‘That will be Fifty Dollars’, he said. ‘FIFTY DOLLARS!’ she screeched... ‘Fifty Dollars?’ ‘It’s only a few ribbons and a feather, you want fifty dollars? ...No!'
‘Oh’, said the Milner, ‘I’m so sorry!’... as he took the headpiece off her head, shook it apart and handed her the ribbons and the feather...
“You can have those for free!”
